One of the most
important autonomous systems we know are our own bodies. However, sometimes we
are depending on each other. Science helps us change the laws of nature. The
RECYCLE ME project has one aim- to spread the word. -
“Organ Donation Concerns Us All”.
Let us
present our new friend Sachiyo Ono from Saitama, Japan. Sachiyo is a great
artist and considerate person who supports organ donation awareness. In the
photo she is wearing a RECYCLE ME T-shirt to visualize her stand in this issue.
Together we can promote change and encourage each other to take a stand for
organ donation. By talking to our loved ones, friends and family, we can
all make a contribution.
“I'm
from Japan but life brought me to Sweden where I started a kimono recycle
business. The idea
was influenced by the spirit of Swedish environmental friendliness. Furthermore,
I have been supported by many people and what I value most is a connection with
others. This collaboration between Recycle Me and ONOKIMONO (even collaboration
between Scandinavian and Japanese design in the photo) is one of the great
opportunities.
Now it's
my turn to support, I recycle me and kimono! I wish both efforts will make
someone happy.”- Sachiyo Ono
Thank
you Sachiyo for your support!

We had the pleasure of meeting Carolina Poelk a Product and UX Designer from Germany to talk about organ donation and how we can unite and act together to raise awareness.
“I am a product designer, working and living in beautiful Gothenburg. I am passionate about creating and designing meaningful and beautiful products and meeting people that share the same visions about collaboration. I believe that we have come to an era where we no longer have resources and time to waste on meaningless objects and designs. We have the responsibility to strive for sustainability, raise awareness and focus on what’s best for our planet. Organ donation is in my opinion the most profound act of humanity and should go without saying. Since it is not yet a given thing for everyone to sign up for, any opportunity to raise awareness should be taken.” - Carolina Poelk
Thank you, Carolina, for engaging in the RECYCLE ME movement!

This is Francis Löfvenholm, a professional photographer from Gothenburg, Sweden. We meet Francis in an art and science collaboration “Explainartist" about the increased CO2 in the ocean. The ways we treat the ocean and our human bodies are closely linked. The human body contains 70% water, and in that way we are the ocean. Each one of us carries a little bit of the ocean within our bodies. How we treat nature has an instant effect on us, and therefore we must treat it respectfully and well in order for us as species as well as other species to survive and be healthy.
Our cultural values, customs and beliefs affect the way we treat the Earth as well as how we treat each other. To sign up as a potential organ donator is a good way to unite with others concerning our common humanity and existence, and our individual lives. More people registered as organ donors will increase the chances of saving lives: yours and those of your fellow human beings.
Recycle Me encourages you to make your wishes known by registering with the organ donations register in your country.

Thank you for participating at the AHA Festival 2017!
We had many interesting discussions about organ donation together
with researchers from both Microbiology and Immunology with researcher Ajibola
Omokanye, and Biological & Environmental Sciences with researcher Sam Dupont.
We also had the pleasure to talk to Håkan Hedman from the Swedish Kidney
Association (Njurförbundet), along with researcher and Designer, Founder
of RECYCLE ME Pamela Lindgren.

We have had the pleasure to meet with Dr. and
researcher Ajibola Omokanye. Ajibola currently works as a researcher at University
of Gothenburg, furthermore, he is also engaged in social enterprise in his organization Explainartist!
“I currently work as a researcher helping to develop
better vaccines. I have previously worked as a doctor in a kidney transplant
team. Organ donation dramatically improves lives, and initiatives that raise
awareness about it deserve generous support.”- Ajibola Omokanye
Thank you Ajibola for participating in our global mission- Organ Donation
Concerns Us All!

"Regardless
who we are and where we come from, autonomy is in the essence of our capacity
to make decisions as individuals, organisations, and societies. In the
realms of war and conflict, struggles for rights, self-achievements, and
artistic and scientific explorations, autonomy is a complex and distinctive
driver for the development of mankind. Throughout history it has referred to
the political independence of the Greek city-states and was a predominant
motivation for the European wars of religion in the 17th century. In the 18th
century, Kant brought it to the centre of theoretical and practical philosophy
debates. During the 19th century, the phrase “art for art's sake” reflected the
Romantic movement's desire to detach art from the stress of rationalism and was
the foundation for the development of abstract art in the 20th century. In the
scientific world of today and tomorrow it will continue to be a major driver in
the development of innovative autonomous."
"Where does our autonomy as individuals, artists and
researchers end and begin? Can the boundaries be drawn so neatly? How does
autonomy relate to contemporary challenges and how we might face them?" Text

R.I.P
It is with deep sadness that we
announce the passing of our friend Birgitta Ulfssons Sunday, October 8, 2017.
During
this time, our thoughts are with her husband, family and friends. Birgitta
was a generous and truly inspiring person with a luminous charisma and a unique
actor who will remain in our hearts and memories forever. Thank you for the laughter for
the good times that we shared.
In memory of Birgitta we quote Tove Jansson who we believe capture
Birgitta Ulfsson persona in these words.
"It is
simply this: do not tire, never lose interest, never grow indifferent—lose your
invaluable curiosity and you let yourself die. It's as simple as that." - Tove
Jansson
